We’re Zayt, an early-stage precision fermentation start up on a mission to kick-off the next great bio-industrial revolution. We want to prove that there’s a different way to do things by applying recent scientific advances in microbial biotech, evolutionary biology and bioinformatics to develop an intelligent, sustainable & healthier approach to the production of raw materials. We founded Zayt with the firm belief that science is our way out of the climate catastrophe, and our mission is to prove this by challenging the status quo of manufacturing.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Zayt's first B ioinformatician you will be an integral part of a growing team. Your goal will be to organise data needed for our scientific goals to enable faster and more innovative scientific progress.You will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining pipelines and analyses to support our R&D activities. As a small company, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the overall vision and strategic direction of the company. You will be expected to participate in all areas of the business that benefit from your expertise.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN THE FIRST MONTHS
- Gathering and curating the most relevant public data using automated pipelines
- Perform the basic genetic and genomic analyses for our strains
- Work with our scientific team to define the most urgent in silico experimental design needs
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE GREAT AT THIS JOB
- Background in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Biology or related fields
- Understanding of genetics, genomics, and other omics, experience with phylogenetics/evolutionary analyses is a plus
- Experienced and confident coder, with a preference for python
- Understanding of basic databasing and data management, experience with graph-based databases is a plus
- Excellent skills in analytical tool development and data pipeline construction
NICE TO HAVE
- Understanding of bioprocessing and bioprocess modeling
- Experience/knowledge of metabolic modeling
